PRIVACY

Last updated: August 2026

LakeDickhead.ca is an independent satirical project. We designed the voting system to collect as little information as reasonably possible.

WHAT WE COLLECT WHEN YOU VOTE

When you cast a vote, the site records:

We do not ask for your name, email address, telephone number, street address, date of birth or citizenship.

  • your Yes or No vote;
  • your country;
  • your province, territory or state if you select Canada or the United States;
  • the language version of the site you used; and
  • the date and time of the vote.

THE FIVE-VOTE ALLOWANCE

Each browser profile receives a random anonymous cookie used to keep track of how many votes have been cast from that browser profile. The current poll allows up to five votes.

The server uses that random value to create an opaque, cryptographically protected identifier for enforcing the voting allowance. It is not used to create a personal profile and is not displayed publicly.

The allowance cookie may remain in your browser for approximately 400 days.

This is a browser-based voting limit, not identity verification. Clearing browser storage, switching browsers or using another browser profile may cause the site to treat that browser as a new voting profile.

SECURITY AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION

LakeDickhead.ca uses technical safeguards including request validation, rate limiting and abuse-prevention measures to operate and protect the voting service.

Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers may process ordinary technical information associated with web requests, such as network or request information, for security, reliability and service operation. We do not use this information to identify or profile voters.

WHAT APPEARS IN RESULTS

Public Results are aggregate only. We do not publish individual voting records or anonymous browser identifiers.

Results may include totals by country and, for Canada and the United States, by province, territory or state. Because some locations may initially have very few votes, the Results may make it apparent that only one or a small number of votes have been cast from a particular place or during a particular period.

These figures represent votes cast, not verified individual people.

HOW LONG WE KEEP VOTING DATA

Vote and anonymous voting-allowance records are retained while the poll is active.

If the poll is permanently closed, we intend to delete the underlying vote and allowance records after 90 days while preserving aggregate results.

Database backups may be retained for approximately 30 days as part of normal recovery and security procedures.

ANALYTICS AND ADVERTISING

LakeDickhead.ca does not currently use analytics, behavioural tracking or advertising technology.

SHARING

If you use the site's Share, Copy Link, Email or social-sharing controls, the site shares only the public LakeDickhead.ca page address and, where supported, the accompanying share text.

Your vote, geographic selection and anonymous voting-allowance information are not added to the shared link.

A FINAL PRIVACY NOTE

We built this to count completely non-binding votes, not to build dossiers on the people casting them.

Seems like enough paperwork already.
